Finished up a couple Drizzt books. Also quickly read Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. Bizarre... concise... and there's no point to it really. But it does have some funny dialog.

Now I'm reading The Gunslinger of the Dark Tower series. Yep, it's my first Stephen King novel!

Missed my first book for our book club tomorrow. I was supposed to read "Miracle in the Andes" but couldn't get a copy from the library or 2nd hand/cheap...
and I'm up for choosing the next book...

Holy crap, seriously?  Well, you picked a great one to start with!  Enjoy the ride--The Dark Tower series is, IMO, King's best work.  Heh... but I haven't waded into Under the Dome yet, and I hear it's really good.  Of course... I'm biased, as King has been one of my favorite authors since I was about 14 or 15 (when I started reading his books).

Recently finished:
Simisola by Ruth Rendell
The Golden Compass by Philip Pullman

Currently reading:
The Subtle Knife by Philip Pullman

REALLY digging on The Golden Compass trilogy so far--much different in tonality from the movie.  I'd recommend it/them. Cool

March book club selection: Brave New World
This was my choice. It'll hopefully generate interesting discussions.

I usually read a few books at a time (very slowly?) It took me ten years to read "Hemp Horizons" due to the writing style and my crazy life. But currently I a, reading, "When Men Win Glory" by Jon Krakauer. I just gulped down his other books ESPECIALLY "Under the Banner of Heaven" about the Mormons (having grown up in SLC, UTAH).

I also just got in the mail (i ordered after watching Bill Maher's "Religulous"), The Thomas Jefferson Bible called, "The Life and Morals of Jesus Christ".

Started Dark Tower IV. III was not as good as II, but still pretty good. I'd give II 4 stars, and III 3 1/2 stars. Book I: 3 stars.

Well... the version of The Gunslinger that I like best is the rewritten one, simply because King went back and cleaned up a LOT of inconsistencies the further along he got in the series.

I won't spoiler you, but you're heading into the real meat of the series.  Enjoy!! up

Hm.  I didn't know he'd gone back and revised some of the others as well.  I really only paid attention to the rewrite of The Gunslinger since the original was inconsistent with the other books in the series.  King had also admitted that that was due to the fact that he pretty much slapped it together in the late 60s/early 70s without giving too much thought to it or how it would ultimately interconnect with the other 6 books.

[geek]I <3 book chitter... hee hee, *snort* [/geek]

Speaking of books--I finished Philip Pullman's The Subtle Knife last night and will start The Amber Spyglass at some point later today.  Good reading, like I've posted earlier--I highly recommend the trilogy.

you know I thought the other  Dark Tower books had revisions, but according to wikipedia they have remained untouched. After reading about some of the revisions to book I, I'm glad I read the revision instead of the original.

So far Book IV is turning out pretty good, and slightly erotic! Susan sounds like a hottie!

I understood that Cuthbert was jealous and even Alain... but no background on that yet. Except for Bert says "why do you always have to be first?"

I'm at the part just after they go out to Rhea's and give her a warning, and then the snake comes out of the tree at Roland and he swings to the side of his saddle and blasts the bugger with three shots. I'm pretty much at the spot where they are in the mausoleum hypnotizing Susan.

Ah, that's right--because she can't remember the witch's hypnotic suggestions to her.

I forget how good Wizard and Glass is sometimes. Cool

Wizard and Glass is really good! It could be a stand alone book or movie. Of course a little confusing to those who don't know that "the world has moved on..."

It'll get faster, trust me.

How did you like the "Wizard of Oz" ending of Wizard and Glass?  Kinda gives you more of an idea of how truly frakked up Flagg is.

The wizard of oz thing... yeah it was interesting, but it shows me more about how King is mating with older ideas. I'm kind of dreading what I hear will be an appearance from King himself... but that's the next book.

Wizard and Glass was probably the best book yet out of the series. Then the Drawing of the Three.

Not to spoiler you, but the appearance of King really isn't that bad.  At least, IMO that is.
